21 TIPS ON HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19

Spread the love

According to WHO, Coronavirus are a large family of viruses which may cause illness in animals or humans. In humans, several coronaviruses are known to cause respiratory infections ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). This novel virus has been named SARS-CoV-2 and the disease it causes has been named COVID-19.

Studies suggest that the virus causing COVID-19 is mainly transmitted through contact with respiratory droplets. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales. These droplets land on objects and surfaces around the person.

Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their nose, eyes or mouth. People can also catch COVID-19 if they breathe in droplets from a person with COVID-19 who coughs out or exhales droplets. Once acquired the virus, the virus begins its incubation period between 1 to 14 days, and most commonly 5 days.

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness and dry coughs. Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhoea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually while older people with health problems like blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness.

As COVID-19 is spreading quickly across the globe and killing anyone whose immunity system is not strong enough to withstand the devastating virus. Many people around the globe are worried about the fate of humanity since this new virus strain has been found without any cure. So we thought about sharing a few tips on how to protect yourself and prevent the spread of the pandemic.

  1. Don’t panic

The most obvious cause of contracting and spreading of this virus is panic. While it is very normal for every human to panic when confronted by something life threatening, however the case, it is very advisable to stand back, ease your tension and act normal to prevent making extreme decisions.

  1. Wash your hands regularly with warm water and soap or disinfectant

Washing your hands regularly can help reduce the risk of spreading this human hunting virus since our hands reach out to many different things every day, some of the things we touch may be contaminated. To help this get effective, wash your hands with warm water and soap or use a disinfectant.

  1. Avoid shaking hands

Just like I mentioned above, our hands reach out to many different things and places which may be contaminated. While you might not know what a person has actually touched, I would highly recommend you avoid it, just in a good way.

  1. Use eye protection

Well, this might seem unimportant but believe me, when something hits your eye you wouldn’t dream of touching it with those same hands that “might” have touched contaminated objects. To avoid all that you can where clear glasses or any cool goggles, your choice.

  1. Don’t share your cellphone

Did you know that our cellphones carry the most germs than any device created by man? That’s right, your phone could be one of your greatest weakness against COVID-19. So next time you are trying to give someone your phone think about it.

  1. Don’t share pens, pencils or any office accessories

Office accessories also carry the risk of transmitting germs since these things are easily contaminated. Once someone with symptoms of COVID-19 leaves droplets on any accessory, like a pen, the viruses might remain there for a couple of hours before they perish. Who knows an uninfected person might come and pick up that pen.

  1. Avoid touching your face, eyes and nose

This is the most trending advice online by health experts. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with your hands since your hands may have touched contaminated objects and surfaces. The COVID-19 may not infect you when its on your hands, but the moment it reaches your face on the nose or eyes, then it gets complicated. To stay safe avoid touching your facial regions.

  1. Use disposable tissue paper instead of hand kerchief

Hand kerchiefs can carry viruses and germs for hours before you even think of disposing them, plus you won’t get the chance to wash them regularly after using them, and that leaves us to only use disposable tissue papers.

  1. Avoid using public toilets or use them with caution

Public toilets are where germs and viruses are native, I would recommend you avoid using them or in some unavoidable situations use them with caution, because in these places hygiene is very deteriorating.

  1. Use tissue paper or disinfectant wipes when handling doors and windows

Where our hands reach, germs and viruses can reach. To access buildings we need doors and through those doors many people come in and come out, unless you prefer living alone like “the Grinch” you wouldn’t allow anyone near your area. So next time you open that door at home or at the office make sure to use a tissue paper.

  1. Avoid shouting when talking

While shouting a great quantity of unseen fluids are gushed out of the mouth and in those fluids might be the COVID-19 which can then be transmitted to anyone in close proximity. Remember this the time you can save a life.

  1. Avoid crowded places

In every crowded place there is a possibility of the presence of COVID-19 and the transmission rate is likely higher. To prevent this, people need to stay away from crowded places.

  1. Shop online

To avoid pressing one another on long queues, how about shopping online. This will help prevent that risky moment of catching the virus in clouded supermarkets and shopping centres. So the next time try shopping online, this will also help you save fuel during this disastrous moment.

  1. Plan weekly or monthly stocking

Stocking supplies is the wisest thing to do in case of any catastrophe or epidemic, this is due to the fact that you will be having limited movements when the world’s economy is not operating at a normal condition. Having in store that weekly or monthly stock can help you make wise rationing decisions.

  1. Stay updated on latest developments

Staying updated on the latest news can help us a great deal. Always follow up on your government’s Health Departments and Ministries to get latest developments and follow their advices and recommendations or follow up on WHO.

  1. When talking avoid close contact

It is highly recommended to stay more than one metre from a person who is sick. This also applies to anyone you meet and talk to on your way since it may help avoid those bubbling droplets containing the viruses.

  1. After taking off your clothes put them separately or wash them immediately

Our clothes carry a lot of things including germs and viruses, and they could be the reason some of us unknowingly spread the viruses to family members and friends. To ensure your safety after taking off your clothes, put them separately or wash them immediately with warm water.

  1. Practice proper hygiene

This is very important to those infected and the affected. When sneezing or coughing cover your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue, then dispose off the tissue immediately. Avoid travelling when you are sick and seek immediate medical help if you feel unwell.

  1. Go public when you have something important to check on

Nowadays going public is the riskiest thing you don’t wanna do. If you have nothing important to do out there then there is no reason for not staying indoors. But if there is really something important to check on then you need to do it occasionally.

  1. Use electronic card payment or mobile instead of cash

Bank notes and coins are said to be one of the riskiest stuff that carry viruses since they are easily contaminated, and in that case our options are either using electronic card payment or mobile transfer.

  1. Pray to God

Our world today is going through a lot of mess because the majority of us have vainly tried to put God out of existence and allowing evil forces to take over us. Fortunately, God is very merciful to His people. God is the cure to everything, in Him nothing is impossible. Throughout history He is known to help people in different dreadful situations. But how does that happen, it is very simple, repent and submit to Him.

Conclusion

We are facing a dreadful time in history, and that everything we handle must be treated in such cautiousness. Following the few tips above can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and save thousands of lives that are on the verge of perishing. Please share this information to save a life. If you have any other tips share them in the comment box and we’ll reach out to them.

It’s interesting to see how for granted we took our hygiene prior to this. And I appreciate you mentioning prayer – really in a time of such uncertainty and no control, surrendering to the universe is essential.
