In life everyone has their own habits regarding their own lifestyles while others are general, whether those habits are good or bad they are generally triggered and executed depending on a series of a repetitive behaviour, sometimes this can sum up to what is known as mindset.

For me I do believe that you can unshackle others with the keys of knowledge. In this case, today we’re going to talk about good habits that will change your life for good, it’s simply fighting off the captivity of negativity and explore the reality of positivity.

Deal of the day

Here I have compiled a list of awesome habits to get you started, by applying some of these simple, practical tips will help you become more successful, happier and more productive in your daily life.

  1. WAKE UP EARLY

It is believed that a good day is seen in the morning, that’s a folk saying. However, I will tell you what is true, the most disciplined and successful people often rise very early in the morning. This is because this is the time when the brain is very active and creative. Waking up earlier can bring greater health benefits to individuals, it helps people get prepared for the day and becoming more productive.

Although it is one of the hardest part psychologically, you will have to train your mind to adapt to it. The best way to help you get started is by setting an alarm to wake you up every morning, including weekends.

  1. DO SOME MORNING EXERCISE

You got up early, great, there is still something else to do and boost your morale for the day ahead, and that is exercising. Believe me, this is what keeps me moving and active everyday, since there are a variety of temptations of going back to bed in the morning, especially when you have nothing else to do.

Start the morning with physical activity, it will help you get over those sleepy hang-overs. It will seem harder in the beginning but once you hit the road everything gets easier.

  1. TAKE A COLD SHOWER

Taking one fine shower in the morning will improve your blood circulation and skin condition, relieve stress and improve your overall mood. Taking a cold shower in the morning is good because every time a drop of cold water drops on your skin you are likely to get stimulated, this is a way of reactivating different members of your body that are still on sleep mode. And there you are having a great and fresh day. But don’t go using very cold water, it might hurt the soul out of you.

  1. FOLLOW A BALANCED DIET

Following a particular balanced diet and keeping a nutrition diary can greatly change your lifestyle. This is because by keeping a nutrition diary helps your body get the necessary amount of minerals needed to keep your immunity system strong. There are apps that can help you do that job by sticking to a specific timetable. To add on that make sure your diet consists of fresh fruits or fruit salad, liver, fish, meat, eggs or any source of proteins, things like fresh vegetables if you are a vegetarian. Remember these are just my random picks, you should make your schedule depending on your access to those food stuff. You should also avoid sugary foods or high cholesterol foods because most of these result to heart failure, diabetes or blood pressure.

  1. FOCUS ON YOUR HOBBY

Finding a hobby and keeping your focus on it could be one thing that will bring change to your life and improve your possibilities of being successful. I know some people who have made millions through their hobbies. Be it writing, drawing or painting, hobbies can really help us reach into the unknown, that world you have always been dreaming of. While you may have multiple hobbies at one go, but I would recommend choosing one favourite and get more practical with it.

  1. PRACTICE FINANCIAL LITERACY

Developing a genuine financial plan can be a very wise decision before your retirement. From dawn of humanity society have been built based on economic structure which has evolved and grown to be one of the most fundamental pillar in our modern world. Without money there is too little you can do today. Having that said, you should always track every single coin you use and develop a saving strategy. The strategy that I have been using recently has made me realise that I can save more than I spend, this is by avoiding to buy unnecessary stuff. One thing I realised from very successful people, the likes of Bill Gates, is that they are always mindful money managers, even though they are rich, they still live a very ordinary lifestyle.

I always have this habit of putting coins and extra change I get from buying stuff into a small locked wooden box which I would open in times of emergence or at the end of the year. This is a very unique trick on how to save that extra money.

  1. VOLUNTEER TO A COMMUNITY PROGRAM

Volunteering is one way to improve your social life, for the past five years that I have worked as a youth activist has changed my mindset. I believe in helping people with little to no money at all in your pockets, the greatest adventure is realising how as a single individual you can build peace and unity within a society. And this is where you get an opportunity to meet different people from different cultures with different perspectives, new people bring new opportunities to our lives. You’ve seen an ongoing charitable activity in your neighbourhood that fits with you? Great, its time to take your first step and join them, it always feels good to be a part of something more than personal.

  1. SET LONG TERM GOALS

One of the greatest mistakes we make in our lives is by setting short term goals and we fail to achieve them. There is a saying that “I’d rather shoot for the moon even if I miss it I’d land among the stars”. The contest in question is that you should rather set long term goals, even if you are to fail you will be a little far from where you started. All you need to do is start simple and raise your level and invest all your efforts in achieving what you want to achieve.

“If you can’t fly, then run, if you can’t run, then walk, if you can’t walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

If you have to run for 10 km a day by the end of the month, you’ll simply have to start running 1 km a day the next day you can go 2 or 3 km, and suddenly you are achieving the impossible.

  1. AVOID SMARTPHONE ADDICTION

Smartphones are great devices to get along with, but did you know smartphones can be as addictive as drugs. Some take them as their spouse, where they always go to bed with them, this is one of the most dangerous thing to do especially when you are about to sleep. The blue light emitted from the smartphone screens negatively affect us and this can lead to a health problem called Transient Smartphone Disorder, a phenomenon that affects vision. This occurs after spending so much time with our smartphones in the dark.

To avoid all this, only use your smartphone when its necessary, and a couple of hours before you sleep take your smartphone away and let your brain tune in to a healthy rest.

  1. FIND BOOKS TO READ

Reading books helps us develop our thoughts and help us get endless productive knowledge, it also help us learn more. While reading stimulates the brain, especially the part of the brain that is associates with memory and attention, it can also improve your focus and enhance your thinking abilities. Remember, knowledge can only be accessible to those who are willing to find it. Based on the genre you may want to choose, I would suggest books that would help you improve moral and psychological well-being. Don’t forget fiction too.

  1. LET THE PAST STAY IN THE PAST

Most of us regret certain things we have been through, sometimes we take a long look and think about the things we have done in the past; the things we regret, the things we can’t take back or undo them, how hard we always wish we could go back in time to fix those mistakes, unfortunately, we end up carrying those mistakes until the weight of those mistakes crashes us to the ground never to rise again. But now that I have grown up and I have realised that much concentration on the past can destroy us and the best remedy is by focusing on the good things in your life and let the past dwell back where it belongs. You should always learn from your mistakes and tend to the future.

  1. BE THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL

One of the greatest value and virtue of humanity is gratefulness. Once you employ gratitude in everything that comes on your way then you are likely to achieve ultimate peace of mind. With a grateful heart you will be able to identify the positive things in life and show appreciation for them, this helps us feel blessed even during our darkest moments.

“It might be stormy tonight, but it won’t rain forever.”

You should develop a habit of identifying at least three things everyday that you are thankful and grateful for. Whether it’s that cold desert or that cheerful kiss from that special person in your life or anything you feel it’s worth the gratitude.

  1. MAKE FUTURE PLANS

Assume your entire life is a “Wonderland” where appointments, calendars, notes, to-do lists are the necessary requirements to navigate through it to achieve your ultimate goals. Successful people have a habit of planning what they are going to do in the future from writing down appointments to their daily to-do lists.

Write down what you are going to do tomorrow, a week later or even ten years to come, whether it’s exploring the Amazon forest, swimming with dolphins in Watamu, Kenya or trekking the Himalayas in India, and perhaps opening a coffee shop in Florence, Italy, everything is worth the planning, this is because it helps us stay organised and manage our time wisely.

  1. GET SOME REST

Getting some time off for yourself is essential to your overall health. While most of us are over-working in the name of working hard to achieve something, however, studies by experts have revealed that not getting time to rest could be self-poisoning. When it comes to resting it doesn’t necessarily mean getting out to a spa and getting a massage, some people can’t afford that, although you can do it if you want.

But there are many ways to make your body feel full of life, find your time during the weekend take a walk or grab your mug of coffee, maybe a cocktail drink, toss yourself into your backyard, relax and think of how grateful you are. Always remember getting your body to rest helps you become even more creative.

  1. PLAY BOARD GAMES

Playing games helps us develop high level strategical thinking and solving problems. People who play board games frequently are certain to improve reasoning skills, critical thinking and developing logic, this is because when you are playing games the brain areas that are responsible for memory formation and complex thought processes are stimulated. Did you know that one of the effects of playing board games is laughter and it has been found that it increases endorphins.

  1. BE POSITIVE

Avoid the captivity of negativity and focus on being positive. Remember, your behaviour and character is a reflection of what you are from the inside, you can’t fake it. Take for instance an old man is sipping coffee at the cafeteria and someone out of nowhere bumps on the old man’s coffee mug, the contents that will be spilled from the coffee mug will definitely be coffee. In reality, if someone bumps on you accidentally what would be your reaction? Would it be anger, pain, frustration or understanding, forgiveness, humbleness. What is spilled out from your mouth is always a reflection of what is inside you. And that is why being positive will help you avoid being miserable and understand anything that’s going wrong.

“Self discipline begins with the mastery of your thoughts. If you don’t control what you think, you can’t control what you do.”

  1. TRAVEL TO SOME PLACES NEW

Travelling is the best remedy for anxiety, stress and depression. Going far away from home and explore nature, different cultures and traditions can help improve mental and physical health. In my busy schedule I would normally travel at least once or twice a year, but ever since I launched this website, my passion for travelling has increased even more. While travelling can increase your overall health, it can also enhance personal growth where you get to do things different from what you do every day and meeting new people.

  1. BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF

Most relationships and careers come to a halt just because of one small thing, honest. If can’t be honest with yourself, then you can’t be honest with anyone, not your boss, not your spouse, not even your parent. Honest is a very difficult habit to achieve, it is one of the most valuable virtues you can ever strive for in humanity.

“Honest is a very expensive gift, don’t expect in cheap people.” – Warren Buffett

When these simple habits are practised daily they can make a very big difference in your life. Because once they are established, they will start using a different part of our brains and we won’t have to think about them, we just do them naturally. The more good habits we can create, the more productive, happier, and successful we can become.

Here’s a Takeaway

To make the things you have just read on this article more effective, take a pen and paper and write down what habits you really want to develop and realising what is very important to you. This will help you advance much faster, into the person you are supposed to be.
