Two people dead including a driver in a fatal Probox accident

Two people including the car driver lost their lives after their car plunged into the Rubingazi River at Mwira bridge in the County of Embu.

The incident which took place earlier on Sunday caused a massive traffic along the Manyatta – Kathangariri road.

In the aftermath of the crash, a woman involved was rescued and rushed to the Embu referral hospital for emergency treatment.

What actually happened

The car involved in the accident, a Toyota Probox was delivering keg beer to the Kathangariri market from Manyatta town when the driver lost control and plunged into the swollen river.

Abdullahi Adan, Embu North police officer stated that one of the bodies of the three passengers was pulled out of the river and that of the driver was yet to be recovered by the authorities.

“We have managed only to save the woman who was among the three people who were aboard the Probox car,” said Mr. Abdullahi Adan.

The authorities and the residents are searching the area for the bodies.

According to latest reports, the vehicle was trying to get a sharp bend when the accident occurred.

Some of the witnesses revealed that they heard a loud banging noise before rushing to the scene to find the passengers onboard trapped.

Locals have raised their displeasure towards the government for failing to construct a better bridge in the locality and has not produced quality service.

“The bridge is an old one and lacks guardrails and that is why the vehicle plunged into the river,” stated Ms Wanjira.

“We elected this county government but it has failed to deliver quality service,” a displeased resident stated.
