Who is Hamisi Jefwa Sulubu?

He is a native of Maweni, Malindi within Kilifi County. He attended Upweoni Primary School and graduated from The Oxford High School in Muyeye, Malindi, and he later joined the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM).

He started his bid for the MCA political office back in 2017 after being a paramount campaigner of Fuadi Kombe in his bid for the 2017 MCA Shella Ward seat.

Hamisi Jefwa Sulubu is one of the few young Kenyan politicians to run alongside popular politicians, the likes of Fuadi, Twahir and Shelali. As one of the shortlisted MCA candidates through the Communist Party of Kenya, this will be his first official bid among other 2022 contenders.

What are some of the shortcomings I see in the current leadership?

There is no equality in the distribution of bursary money, which has contributed greatly to those who have difficulty when it comes to studying. Ethnicity is so prevalent in Shella’s leadership, there is no equality for other tribes. Lack of street lights has contributed to insecurity and yet the administration has turned a blind eye to this issue.

High unemployment rate for Shella residents and yet there are many ways to alleviate this problem. Street children are on the rise and are not being helped by the current administration to return to school. Our roads are bad (puddles) not repaired. No maritime security, which has contributed significantly to low maritime mortality rate.

While the leadership has not tried to help reduce vis a vis. False promises have become too much. There are residents who need government support but the selfishness and greed of the leaders is extreme. And that’s why no help comes to the people from the government offices.

It is very tedious to see children being expelled from school because of early pregnancies and yet no action is being taken by the appropriate institutions.

Why do I feel that I should lead?

As a child born and hailing from Shella Ward, I have seen the problems that afflict my fellow residents here, and that is why I want to make a difference by helping my comrades and fellow residents of Shella Ward.

I have always been involved in community service. There are some residents who have had broken houses where I joined my fellow youths to help them. We started a project to help children study during the teachers’ strike back in 2019. There are some roads that used to have sewers that we tried to repair so that people could pass safely. And I would really like to help my community with things like these or even more so that Shella Ward should be a ward of development.

I have tried to talk about street lights with the government officials but they have not taken into account or considered my idea, but I believe if I get your support things like this will happen in time.

What do I intend to do when I get leadership?

First, I want to restore the integrity of the leadership office by restoring everything that the residents of Shella need, by releasing government tenders that will benefit the residents of Shella Ward. Get rid of ethnicity in the distribution of bursaries and ensure that every Shella Ward child who needs help, gets or benefits from the CDF and Ward development funds.

Creating effective ways to support mothers and young people through agribusiness projects so that they can earn a living. Reduce the number of street children which will be possible by sending them back to school to continue their education.

Add even more street lights to support safety and business for those who work late at night. I will make sure that Shella Ward shines by cleaning the streets and making sure our roads are free of sewage.

I want to create a SACCO that will help, protect and take care of our fishermen in Shella Ward in such a way that they can benefit from the blue economy. I will build lifeguard towers to reduce deaths caused by drowning in our oceans.

“I humbly ask for your votes so that we can change Shella Ward together and move it to the required level,” Hamisi Jefwa Sulubu, MCA Shella Ward 2022 candidate.
