Ida Odinga’s message to Martha Karua as Raila’s running mate
On the 16th May 2022, Martha Karua was appointed as Raila Odinga’s running mate in Azimio’s bid for presidential elections, a move that was welcomed by many Azimio supporters.
The move to pick Martha Karua has garnered support from many Kenyans since it shows that if Raila Odinga comes to power his government will uphold inclusivity especially of women.
According to critics this has served a major blow to Ruto in the race for the presidential seat, since Raila picking a woman as a running mate has proven potential inclusivity in his potential government.
Martha Karua expressed her humble pleasure in accepting the role to help Raila secure the August 9th presidential elections.
“This is a moment for the women of Kenya. It is a moment that my grandmother would have been proud of, but she would not have been surprised because generations of women have fought for change. This is our moment of Kenya. It is also a moment for the men: they are our brothers and fathers,” stated Martha Karua.
The wife of Raila Odinga, Ida, went on to uphold and congratulate Martha Karua that, “I wish to congratulate Martha Karua Wangari. Her tireless work in fighting for Social and Economic human rights is having a powerful in impact in Kenya. As you start a new journey in restoring the lost hope of many Kenyans I wish you good health, courage and wisdom in serving the People of Kenya as the first female Deputy President-Designate,”
